Chairman invested as honorary scout

On Councillor Chris Lloyd's first formal engagement as Chairman of Three Rivers District Council, he was invested as an honorary member of the 1st Mill End Scout Group on Thursday May 22.

Councillor Lloyd was a Queen scout as a teenager and attended a Jamboree in Norway, so he had lots of memories and advice to share with the young people and parents at the meeting.

Cllr Lloyd said: "The 1st Mill End Scouts made me most welcome. The leaders of this group and all youth groups throughout the Three Rivers district should be thanked for all the work they put in week by week on behalf of our young people."

Scouting is in such demand in the local area that more leaders are being sought to open up another cub pack and scout troop. Any resident wishing to help as an adult leader/helper can contact Peter Edwards for further information  01923 284348.

Pensioners' Forum: distraction burglaries and leisure top the agenda

Over 60s from across the Three Rivers area are invited to come along to the next meeting of the popular Pensioners' Forum, which will take place on Friday June 13 from 2.00pm - 4.00pm at Three Rivers House in Rickmansworth.

Crime Prevention Officer Gary Sibson will be coming along to speak to the group about steps that can be taken to prevent distraction burglaries. Gary will also be on hand to offer pensioners personal safety advice and answer any questions they may have.

Other speakers include Charlotte Masters and Nick Denham from the District Council's Leisure department, who will be making sure older residents are aware of the crafts and exercise activities that will be on offer over the summer.

David Muir from the Watford Hearts Support Group will also be attending the Forum to speak to members about the group, which offers companionship and support for those suffering with heart conditions in the Watford and Three Rivers areas.

The popular Pensioners' Forum meets three times per year and regularly attracts up to sixty local pensioners from across the district. Councillor Paul Goggins, Chairman of the Pensioners' Forum and the District Council's Pensioners' Champion, said:
"The Pensioners' Forum is always a thoroughly worthwhile and enjoyable afternoon. It's a chance for older residents to meet, talk about things that matter to them and get answers to any questions they may have. We have many regular attendees who get a lot out of the meetings and new faces are always made very welcome. I would encourage all pensioners to think about coming along and having their say."

The forum is held in the Penn Chamber, Three Rivers House, Northway, Rickmansworth, WD3 1RL.
